Following the example of Gangi

Written by Studio SerEla.

The situation of our Sicilian old town centres is very difficult: many houses were abandoned. In my opinion some country sould imitate the example of Gangi that it’s a town in near Palermo city. Just here, the mayor has proposed to give free ancient and deserted buildings to the possible buyer, but these buyers will be obligated to propose an renovation project within a year and to start renovations within two months from issue date of planning permission (you can find this topic in a previous article). Similarly, Patti (a little town near Messina city ), Mussomeli (a little town near Caltanissetta city ) and Salemi (a little town near Trapani city ) are imitating the initiative of Gangi

Last October, the administrators of Patti town have published an advise for its citizens in order to sell their ancient homes (situated in historical centre) at symbolic price of 1,00 euro. An announcement illustrates the procedures about the purchase of these properties. The possible buyer can be a private user or a building society. This buyer will be to obliged to stipulate the bill of sale within one year, to propose an renovation project within a year and to start renovations within two months from issue date of planning permission. The buyer, who becomes the new proprietary, will have to deposit 4.000 euro to Patti’s municipality as guarantee fund. When the renovation project will be finished, the administrators will give back this money to the new proprietary of the building. Also in Mussomeli, the city councilman Salvatore Nigrelli has proposed an similar initiative, but there isn't yet an public announcement because the city council must meet to accept this proposal. In the future a web site about this initiative will be created to publicize all propriety in sale by photos, plans and descriptions about these. Finally, in Salemi the Vittorio Sgarbi’s initiative, proposed in 2010 and abrogated in 2012, has been proposed and accepted again. In fact last October, the city councilman Lorenzo Cascio, has proposed again the sale at symbolic price of 1,00 euro of a few properties of  old town centre
